Is Genetically Modified Food Safe To Eat?

The answer to this politically charged answer varies depending on who you ask. However, since 1996, when unlabeled genetically modified food crops were first introduced into our diets, a great deal of scientific studies, conducted all over the world have linked the consumption of genetically modified food to everything from an increase in childhood asthma and allergies to an increased risk of developing breast cancer.

Such findings have urged nations all around the world, including the countries in the European Union, Australia and Japan, to require mandatory labeling of genetically modified food. This labeling is designed to do nothing more than give consumers the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding the food they purchase for themselves and their families.

How Will I Know If I am Eating Genetically Modified Food?

If you’re an American, shopping at the big brand name grocery stores across this nation for your family’s groceries, you have no way of knowing whether or not you are purchasing genetically modified food. Currently, the United States has no laws requiring food manufacturers to label the genetically modified food ingredients they use in their various products. For example, a potato chips comapny is legally able to label its products as “All Natural” even though its chips are made with genetically modified potatoes. Worst yet, according to JustLabelIt.org, a new consumer group advocating for the mandatory labeling of genetically modified food, more than 80% of the food products sold in our supermarkets today contain genetically modified ingredients. Of course, this claim isn’t so hard to believe when we consider the fact that almost all corn and soy crops are genetically modified and that almost all processed foods contain either corn or soy ingredients.

Just Label It! We Have A Right To Know!

According to a recent Online poll, 52% of Americans believe that genetically modified foods are unsafe and more than 93% of Americans believe that the federal government must require food manufacturers to label their genetically modified products as such. Due to this public outcry JustLabelIt.org has launched a recent legal campaign to urge the FDA to begin the labeling of genetically modified foods in the United States. Practically overnight, this petition has grown to become one of the biggest food petitions in the FDA history!

If you’re one of the millions of health conscious Americans who pride themselves on their ability to make informed decisions and believe that they have a right to know whether or not their food is genetically modified than sign this petition before March 27, 2012 and tell the FDA: Label My Food!

It’s scary that we are eating so many genetically modidifed foods. Too many companies are deciding what goes into our bodies. Their only concern is profit. They care nothing about health and the consequences of their modified foods.

I am also concerned about the food that my dogs and cats and horses eat. They get the by-products of the modified food that humans eat.
