Uses of Aloe Vera

Last year, for my birthday, my husband bought me a little Aloe Vera plant, instead of flowers. He did this because earlier I had mentioned to him how I missed having a backyard and being able to grow my own herbal plants, now that we live in NYC.

Of course, I just adored that little plant and it thrived in my kitchen. After just a couple of months, my little Aloe Vera plant was big enough to provide me with all of the benefits of having such a plant. I ran to my trusty Aloe Vera plant whenever:

  • I suffered a burn while cooking
  • My husband’s Psoriasis began to flair up
  • My face felt dry and in need of some some TLC
  • Anyone in my household was constipated or having indigestion
  • Anyone in my household developed athlete’s foot or an allergic skin reaction, etc

Basically, what I am trying to say is that, my little Aloe Vera plant was one of the most useful items in my natural home medicine cabinet. But, unfortunately, I woke up this morning and noticed that my precious little Aloe Vera plant had snapped at the base, most likely due to the weight of its leaves. Not wanting it to go to waste, I took the whole plant apart in order to preserve its gel and juice.

Note: In order to get to the juice and gel of an Aloe Vera plant simply peel the side of one of the leaves with a vegetable peeler, and using a butter knife, scrape the gel and juice inside the leaf into an air tight container.

I’ve created the following 3 detox smoothie recipes in honor of my dearly departed Aloe Vera plant. Each one of these smoothie recipes features both Aloe Vera Juice and Aloe Vera gel because it is virtually impossible to separate the two when you derive them fresh, from the plant. Likewise, the fruits and other ingredients used in these smoothies are all meant to help detox your body and ease your digestive issues.

P.S. You will not taste or smell the Aloe in these recipes because both Aloe Vera juice and Aloe Vera gel are basically tasteless and odorless.
