And the award for The World’s Worst Father goes to………….Mohammed Rizal, an Indonesian fishmonger!
>What has Mohammed Rizal done to earn this inglorious title? Well, when his son Ardi Rizal was just 18 months old Mohammed Rizal decided to present his son with a cigarette for no other reason than to amuse himself. Today, two year old Ardi is completely addicted to nicotine and his health has deteriorated so much so that he may not live to see his teenage years. Ardi smokes two packs of cigarettes (40 cigarettes) a day and is too unfit to run and play with the other children. In fact, little Ardi struggles to even move by himself and suffers through nicotine withdrawals when deprived of his favorite snack.
>Is Mohammed Rizal concerned about his son’s health? Not in the least bit. In fact, when asked about his son’s health Mr. Rizal had the following to say, “He looks pretty healthy to me. I don’t see the problem.”
>Is this legal? In this blogger’s humble opinion, this scenario is a clear-cut case of child endangerment. By allowing his son to become a nicotine addict at the tender age of 18 months Mr. Rizal has put his son in mortal danger. Little Ardi is at an extremely high risk of developing the following health risks: (All of which are likely to manifest themselves before he reaches the age of 30)
- Coronary heart disease (Amongst healthy individuals, smokers are 4 times more likely to develop this condition)
- Cancer of the lungs, oral cavity, larynx, esophagus and bladder.
- Stroke and brain hemorrhages…..And the list goes on……
>So what are the authorities doing about it? They have offered to buy the Rizal family a new car if they stop giving their son cigarettes. Now, if you recognize the sheer stupidity of the Indonesian government’s solution to this problem, you will also be able to recognize the fact that Mr. Rizal is not only a negligent parent but he is also a total moron. If I was in Mr. Rizal’s shoes, I would get my other children hooked on Crack Cocaine, Methamphetamine and other narcotics, all in an effort to possibly get the government to also buy me a new house, yacht and so forth…..(Of course, I am joking ![]()
>How is all this possible? Simple! In a country riddled with poverty and political corruption the tobacco companies are thriving. Indonesia, one of the world’s poorest countries, is also the world’s third-largest tobacco consumer. Indonesia’s health minister Endang Sedyaningsih is aware of what this high level of tobacco consumption is doing to the health of her fellow countrymen. But, despite her best efforts, a bill to control tobacco companies and limit their advertising power has stalled due to opposition from the tobacco industry and corrupt politicians who profit off of the industry. Making matters worse is the fact that in Indonesia tobacco companies have succeeded in promoting smoking as a positive activity amongst the youth by sponsoring everything from scholarships to sporting events.
>And what about little Ardi? Well, he is just an innocent victim of his parents’ ignorance and his government’s corruption.

This is terrible, his father should be shot for that… he basically killed his child. He must have given that poor child more then one cigarette to make him addicted.
I am serious, he deserves the worst punishment, and yes, I hate cigarette smoke, cannot imagine how anyone can fill their lungs with smoke….and then be so selfish and not care about other who have inhale it passively…. lets leave it at that.
Have a smoke free day…
Colin.
Ps, great blog you have.

Realizing that most of the rest of the world is probably about 30 years behind our awareness of the dangers of smoking, I can’t say that I’m surprised at this father’s attitude.
