Wearing the right fitness attire at the gym can make all the difference between having a great workout and having a so/so workout. When I say “attire” I don’t mean safety gear like belts and workout gloves, which are important of course. However, in this case I’m talking specifically about aesthetics. That’s right. It’s not only important to be safe when we work out in order to get great results, we have to also look great while doing it.
It’s important for us to like the way we look as we are working out. It not only makes us feel motivated to work even harder to maintain our physical appearance, but inspires us to make that appearance even better. Imagine how motivated you would feel as you worked out in an oversized sweatshirt that pretty much makes you look frumpy. Now imagine yourself in a T-Shirt that makes your Arms look big. your shoulders look broader, your waist look slim. Perhaps you have coordinated the color of your clothes to look and feel like a badass workout warrior.
One of my favorite shirts to wear at the gym is a nice fitted American Apparel shirt that says ” If you’re going through hell, KEEP GOING” on the back. The fit of that shirt makes me look and feel like I can go harder and longer at the gym. It shapes out my body very nicely and when I’m pumped from lifting weights It makes me look like a Spartan from 300 the movie. Not to mention the words on the back that has a psychological effect on me and anyone else in the gym that sees it. With that shirt I not only have a positive effect on myself, but also everyone else around me.
So before you head to the gym, pick something out that makes you feel good about working out. You don’t have to be in the best shape in the world to do this. We all have clothes and gear that we deem our favorite because we like the way it makes us look and consequently feel about ourselves. Your gym attire should be no different. If you have great arms but a big stomach, then wear a shirt that’s tight around your arms on arm day. I promise you after working your arms you will feel so good about yourself you may even do an impromptu abs workout just so that your stomach will catch up with your perfect arms. That’s what it’s all about. Now throw out that sweatshirt!
