We all want that allusive 6-pack and the hour-glass look that accompanies it. The following is a list of things you can do to attain your dream abs.

Eat A High Fiber Diet

Not enough fiber and dehydration result in constipation. In order to avoid that heavy bloated feeling, which can also make your mid-section look thick, consume at least 30 grams of fiber from whole grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts. It is also recommended that the average adult drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day in order to stay properly hydrated.

Eat Smaller, More Frequent Meals

By eating six smaller meals, instead of three big meals, you can boost your metabolism, improve your digestion, control your blood sugar levels and manage overeating and over-snacking. The combination of these factors can eventually lead to a slimmer waistline.

Chew Your Food

Eating in a rush and not chewing each bite properly can result in air swallowing. This can also lead to constipation and bloating. Take smaller bites and enjoy your meals. Chew each bite for at least 30 seconds and you might find yourself eating less and loosing weight. Studies have shown that when we chew and taste food properly we actually eat less because our meals feel more satisfying.

Limit Salt

Eating a high sodium diet, which is often equivalent to eating a diet high in processed foods, can lead to water retention, dehydration and constipation. Learning to read and understand food labels is the most effective way of limiting your salt intake. Beware of canned goods. Never buy or consume any canned good or processed food with more than 500 mg of sodium per serving and never exceed 2,300 mg of sodium per day.

Put Down The Soft Drink

We all know that soft drinks cause dehydration and constipation. But, what is not well known is that the fizz in soft drinks also contributes to the formation of gas and bloating in the intestines.

Throw Out The Sugar Free Snacks

Artificially sweetened foods and drinks contain sugar alcohol which causes bloating. Likewise, often these sugar-free snacks are high in calories, preservatives, carbohydrates and sodium, all of which can reek havoc on your metabolism and cause your mid-section to expand.

Workout Your Core Muscles!

There is no avoiding it! In order to have the amazing flat abs you have always dreamed of you must incorporate cardio ab workouts into your workout routine. Though it is not possible to spot-reduce body fat, abdominal workouts will tone and strengthen your muscles causing your mid-section to appear slimmer.

The following is just one example of a short abdominal workout you can incorporate into your workout routine.
